Can You Tell Me More About Adoptive Families?
Can I choose the family for my baby?
We believe you should have the opportunity to select the family who you feel best meets the needs of your baby. Our counselor will provide background information and photos of prospective families to help you make a choice that is right for your baby. In fact, our adoptive parents create a family binder telling their entire life stories so you can choose just the right family. You may even want to meet the family or prefer to remain anonymous. It’s your choice. We know every birth mother is different about the level of openness she wants. Your counselor will discuss your options and will respect your input to make the best match for you.
How are adoptive families screened?
All prospective adoptive parents must go through an extensive and demanding process called a ”home study.“ During this process, background checks are completed with police departments and the Florida Department of Children and Families. The family, extended family and close family friends undergo thorough review. Families must provide reference letters from their employers to confirm stable employment and income. All prospective adoptive families undergo this extensive process to be available for matching.
Can I choose a family that practices a certain religion?
CHS approves adoptive families that have various religious beliefs, allowing you to select a family of a certain religion. For example, if you’re Catholic and would like to place your child with a Catholic family, we will find the right family for your baby.
How soon after birth can my baby be placed with the family?
In most situations, the baby will be placed with the adoptive family directly from the hospital.
